Report: Employees winning 70% more in court

A new report shows how costly lawsuits are becoming for employers.

The median verdict in employment law cases was $252,000 in 2007, according to the latest study from Jury Verdict Research. That’s up 70% from the number in 2006 ($147,500).

What’s more, companies are losing more cases than ever. Only 38% of employment cases were won by employers, down from 45% in 2006.

Those figures should give managers another incentive to pay attention when HR gives harassment and bias training.

MOST OF THIS EXPENSE ATTORNEY FEES. RIGHT OR WRONG BILLING FOR HOURS REALLY DOES ADD UP IN EMPLOYMENT CASES. THE HIDDEN EXPENSE IS THE DEPOSITIONS OF OTHER EMPLOYEES TAKING THEM AWAY FOR THEIR NORMAL DAILY DUTIES ETC, AND MORALE IS AFFECTED BIG TIME. NOT FUN BUT WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO BE SQEEKY WHEELS TO ALL EMPLOYEES ESPECIALLY MANAGEMENT IN DOING THINGS CORRECTLY.
