And you thought FMLA was a pain …

Do your employees need time off to “find the wellspring of love”?
That’s what one lawmaker in Finland’s parliament thinks. He’s proposed a bill that would guarantee workers seven days of “love vacation” a year.
In his words, the leave would give couples time to “find their way back to the path of love” and “find the wellspring of love again.”
He says the law would solve several problems, such as Finland’s rising divorce rate and declining population.
No word on whether the bill has a chance to pass, but here’s our take: Employees, use your PTO however you want. Your journey on the path of love is none of our business.

While taking time out for your relationship is surely a healthy thing, I don’t see how the federal government could mandate it. Can you just imagine? I can just see some of my single employees walking in saying, “I’m single, can I sell the time back for cash?”. Others would say that 7 days wasn’t enough and would want more time - all without using vacation or PTO. Without a doubt, you’d also have one employee asking another to accompany him/her on the love vacation. There’s a sexual harrassment investigation waiting to happen…Yikes!

The real argument lies in this this one sentence…
“He says the law would solve several problems, such as Finland’s rising divorce rate and declining population.”
Obviously, Finland is now looking at the long term effect of their decreasing population and the increasing divorce rate. The United States definitely DOES NOT have that type of problem!!!
So… I believe that they are only are trying to do what they think is best for their country.
If they can afford to do it… I say go for it!!!
